Our road so far

Sit & Heat has already travelled a long way. The very first step was taken in 2008, when founder Jorg Rijkschroeff conceptualised the heated cushion as a new, energy-efficient terrace heater. The journey continued, from the first prototype to the sale of hundreds of heating cushions at home and abroad. Follow our footsteps here:

2008

Idea Sit & Heat wins prize from Ministry of Housing, Spatial Planning and the Environment.

2009

Sit & Heat is supported by the kiEMT Foundation.

2010

First pilot on terrace of Grand Café The Movies in Eindhoven.

2011

Sit & Heat wins Jan Terlouw Innovation Award.

2012

Sit & Heat raises innovation funding from PPM Oost and Rabobank.

2013

Philips stadium has first with Sit & Heat.

Sit & Heat in collaboration with Design Studio BOMM in Milan.

2014

Sit & Heat receives an investment of €250,000.

2015

Jeroen Diks joins the Sit & Heat team.

2016

Sit & Heat introduces heated scatter cushions for private consumers.

2017

Sit & Heat starts cooperation with Moonich from Munich, Germany.

2018

Nijmegen is the Green Capital of Europe. Sit & Heat is starting a project together with Nijmegen and the hospitality industry in Nijmegen to make its terraces more sustainable.
Sit & Heat supplies heated cushions to the Champagne Bar at Harrods in London.

2019

Sit & Heat starts a production facility in the Netherlands.

2020

Sit & Heat HQ moves to the Honig factory in Nijmegen.

2021

Sit & Heat supplies the dug-out seats of Paris
Saint-Germain.

2022

Sit & Heat supplies the cushions on the rooftop terrace of Restoration Hardware in New York City.
Sit & Heat opens its new HQ at the Cargadoorweg in Nijmegen.

The ultimate objective is to provide half the world with Sit & Heat and put an end to the traditional way of heating outdoors.

Prizes and support

Over the years, Sit & Heat has won several awards and received support from various organisations.

Dutch Ministry of VROM (Ministery of Housing, Spatial Planning and the Environment)

The first idea won € 10.000 from the Ministry of VROM. The aim of the Ministry was to stimulate alternatives to the current terrace heating.

Stichting Duurzaam Eindhoven (Sustainable Eindhoven Foundation)

Together with Stichting Duurzaam Eindhoven (Sustainable Eindhoven Foundation), we ran the first pilot on the terrace of Grand Cafe de Movies in Eindhoven and at PSV in the Philip Stadium.

Stichting kiEMT (kiEMT Foundation)

The KiEMT Foundation has been involved with Sit & Heat from the very beginning. The KiEMT Foundation supports and coaches us. Additionally, the KiEMT Foundation has provided the first pre-seed resources.
